Unlocking the Power of Propensity Models and Precision Marketing in Healthcare

Recently, I hosted a webinar on optimizing CRM systems to attract and retain patients. During the session, we explored some valuable insights that are essential for healthcare professionals, especially those looking to develop strategic content with purpose. Two key concepts stood out that I want to dive deeper into: Propensity Models and Precision Marketing.

Recently, I hosted a webinar about CRM technology in healthcare, and it sparked some great insights about how precision marketing and propensity models can elevate your patient engagement strategy.

For physicians and healthcare practices looking to develop a strategic content plan, this article will break down the key elements you need to know to drive growth and connect with your patient base on a deeper level.

Let’s dive into it.

What is Precision Marketing?

Precision marketing is about delivering highly targeted, relevant content and services to patients based on data-driven insights. This approach involves segmenting your audience (patients) into specific groups and delivering personalized content that resonates with them. The goal is to ensure your message is seen by the right people at the right time, maximizing impact and driving patient engagement.

For example, if you’re running a vascular surgery practice, instead of casting a wide net and sending general emails to all your patients, you could use precision marketing to focus on patients with a history of Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) or those showing early signs of vascular issues. You’d then create content, such as educational videos or articles, specifically designed to address their concerns and needs.

Precision marketing helps build trust by showing patients that you understand their unique health journey and are providing relevant solutions.

What is Propensity Modeling?

Propensity modeling takes precision marketing a step further. It uses machine learning algorithms and data analysis to predict which patients are most likely to need specific services or treatments. In short, it helps you identify the patients who are most at risk or in need of care before they even walk through your doors.

For example, you can create a propensity model to predict which of your patients are likely to develop varicose veins based on factors such as family history, age, or lifestyle. With this information, you can send them personalized educational content or special promotions for vein screenings, helping them stay proactive in their health journey.

This predictive approach helps you stay one step ahead and makes your patient outreach more efficient and effective.

Integrating CRM Systems into Your Strategy

By incorporating my CRM, I’ve been able to strategically use data and automation to connect patients with relevant content throughout their healthcare journey. My CRM enables automated outreach through emails, text messages, and even social media, ensuring patients receive personalized information based on their specific needs.

For example, imagine a patient comes in for a consultation about varicose veins. After the visit, they automatically receive follow-up content, like an educational video about their treatment options or a blog post that explains recovery expectations. This follow-up builds trust and keeps patients informed at every step of the process.

Why This Matters for Your Practice

Precision marketing and propensity models allow you to deliver patient-centered care in ways that go beyond the clinic.

Here’s how:

  • Personalized Care: Patients feel heard and valued when they receive information tailored to their specific health concerns.

  • Improved Engagement: Targeted outreach ensures that patients are more likely to take action, whether that’s booking a consultation or following a recommended care plan.

  • Efficient Use of Resources: By focusing on the patients most in need, you can make better use of your marketing budget and time.

Real Results from Propensity Modeling

One great example of propensity modeling in action is a campaign I ran for a cardiology group offering vein screenings for varicose veins.

Instead of marketing to everyone, we targeted patients over 50 with a history of PAD and specific lifestyle factors that put them at risk. By delivering personalized content, we were able to increase screening appointments by 25% and saw better engagement from patients who were truly in need of our services.

This is the power of combining smart data with strategic outreach.
